MONTELUPO
FIORENTINO Situated about 25 km. from Florence, 50 km. from Pisa and only about 10 km. from Vinci, home of Leonardo, Montelupo is easily reached by car traveling on the superoute Firenze-Pisa-Livorno from which there is an exit marked Montelupo Fiorentino. The museum with 13 rooms on three floors,130 display cabinets, and over 300 pieces illustrates one of Tuscany’s most famous art products, namely the ceramics produced by the craftsmen of Montelupo, who inherit a tradition running back to the Middle Ages. For those who are interested in historical ceramics, the “Museo Archeologico e Della Ceramica” should not be missed, it is divided into two sections. On the ground level, there are archeological relics from Paleolithic ages right up to the Etruscan and Roman civilizations. On the first and second floors, there are interesting collections of Montelupo Majolica, found during excavations for re-paving an ancient street in the castle. |
